Parenting Plans

If you separate from your partner and intend to share time with children, Parenting Plans that set out times with the children may be necessary.  The introduction of a new partner may raise concerns for both children and the former partner.  Communication is paramount.  This should be done respectfully and openly with your co-parent and then documented in a Parenting Plan.

Child Support

Your new partner may receive an income that impacts Child Support Payments.  Changes in living arrangements and family incomes can affect Child Support entitlements.  Obtain legal and financial advice so as to maximise your entitlements.

Binding Financial Agreements

Legal rights in relation to property and finances can be dramatically affected when entering into a de facto relationship with a new partner.  Ensure that your assets are protected and consider the making of a Binding Financial Agreement and new Will.  Before you do this, of course, you must ensure that your financial and property affairs are properly settled with your former partner through either a Binding Financial Agreement or Court Orders.

The lesson? Once again, ensure that you receive adequate legal and financial advice to protect your family’s future and your assets.
